Adventure-based group formation
Adventure House, located in Kallahti, Vuosaari, is part of the City of Helsinki’s Environmental Education Unit and specialises in adventure education. Its primary target groups are youth groups from Helsinki.
Adventure‑based group formation (seikkailuryhmäytys) is a pedagogical method that uses adventure‑oriented activities to create experiences that support personal growth and strengthen the group’s ability to work together. Through purposeful challenges, participants learn the skills and capacities needed to act as members of a community.
A central element of adventure education is supporting participants’ agency in defining goals, shaping activities, and taking responsibility for both their own actions and the shared process.
Group members play an important role as peers and learning supporters, offering opportunities for reflection, self‑understanding, and discovering one’s own insights and solutions. Adventure education emphasizes process orientation, reflection, dialogue, and a focus on participants’ strengths.
Adventure House primarily provides adventure‑based group formation for Helsinki’s lower‑secondary school classes and upper‑secondary student groups. The maximum group size is 25 young people.
