Introduction

Hiya 🙂 I am a girl from Jätkäsaari who likes to play basketball and wants to make schools more comfort so that learning would not feel as tough as it now does, but would be fun and enjoyable for all. Instead of just doing exercises in class, it would be more fun but equally effective if pupils could for example play Kahoot! or Quizlet more often than they now do. I also think pupils should be allowed to decide for themselves if they want to take an exam or write an essay. Writing essays would enable pupils to be less stressed out about exams and also teach them independent studying.

Hobbies: I play basketball on the 1st division of the U-16 series in Lauttasaaren Topola, and I am also a part of our RPC team.

Answers to the election machine

Schools should have more days during which they only serve vegetarian food.

I do not think that schools should increase the number of vegetarian days because I think that this will only increase food waste, as many young people hate vegetarian food.

Schools should focus on grouping more extensively than now.

Schools should put more effort into grouping because this can help young people make new friends in school and even reduce bullying.

Distance learning needs to be established as a permanent learning method in addition to contact teaching.

Distance learning should be established as a permanent learning method alongside contact teaching because this will allow pupils who are ill or travelling to not fall behind in their studies.

The competitiveness of young people’s sports activities should be reduced.

I do not believe that the competitiveness of young people’s sports should be reduced. Instead, I think that non-competitive sports should be increased, because then everyone is given the opportunity to choose the form of sport that suits them best.

The City of Helsinki should primarily offer summer jobs to those young people who do not yet have work experience.

I think that all young people should be given the opportunity to have a summer job and gain work experience, so that is why summer jobs should be offered first to young people who do not have any experience yet.

The public spaces in Helsinki should maintain the division between women’s and men’s toilets.

I think it would be good to have separate toilets for men and women and also have gender-neutral toilets for everyone.

Helsinki should start offering free public transport to those under 18.

I think that public transport should be free for people under 18 because not all parents cover their children’s travel expenses, which can make it difficult to meet with friends who live far away, for example.

It would be better if there were no e-scooters in Helsinki.

I do not think that e-scooters should be banned.

For a member of the Youth Council, pushing their own goals through is a more important quality than agreeing on compromises.

I think that compromises are important for the functioning of a group, and it is always good to look at things from many different angles, because this is the way to reach a good solution.

On which topics would you like the Youth Council to focus, in particular? Select the three that are the most important to you.

I think that the voice of young people should be heard more and that is why I think it is important to pay attention to young people’s influencing opportunities. The lack of equality can be seen in school sports, for example, because when boys get to play football, girls have to do dance. Mental health problems are now common among many young people and I hope that this will start to change.
