Yhteinen maailma ja ilman, että ketään jää yksin.

Introduction

Hi! My name is Ahmad Qasemi and I come from Malmi.
I would like to help and promote the rights of other pupils and young people.
I have noticed that there is a clear lack activities in some schools and that bullying is quite common these days.
I have also noticed that sometimes some pupils and also some teachers do not help or listen as much as they should, and I have noticed this quite a lot, for example, in my own family, in some schools and in my old hobbies.

My hobbies include programming and home economics and I work as an intern at an IT company.

Schools should have more days during which they only serve vegetarian food.

Well, I think that the food should be improved because the vegetarian dishes sometimes taste weird. Then again, they taste good at other times, so vegetarian food is 50/50.

Schools should focus on grouping more extensively than now.

Yes, because I do not want anyone to be left alone or excluded from groups, so any time a teacher or pupil notices a child who looks lonely, they should help the child or at least encourage them to participate in things.

Distance learning needs to be established as a permanent learning method in addition to contact teaching.

In a way, I think that this too is a 50/50 issue, as the distance learning periods were difficult for 1st–3rd graders, who definitely always had problems, whereas for 4th–7th graders it was the best of times because the pupils had more freedom in their studies. The distance learning period was also a good time in my opinion, as sometimes my school day ended hours earlier than actually scheduled.

The competitiveness of young people’s sports activities should be reduced.

Yes, because it would improve young people’s athletic skills and also teach them the competitive skills required for success.

The City of Helsinki should primarily offer summer jobs to those young people who do not yet have work experience.

Yes, because young people who want to participate would not be happy about experienced people getting a job while inexperienced do not.

The public spaces in Helsinki should maintain the division between women’s and men’s toilets.

Yes, because boys might feel strange about using the same toilet as girls, or maybe girls would also feel the same, and maybe both genders might feel that they do not have gender privacy.

Helsinki should start offering free public transport to those under 18.

Yes, I think so, as in a way it would help young people travel more along Helsinki’s public transport routes, and it would also help young people who travel long distances. On the other hand, no, if it would be too expensive and cause a loss to the City of Helsinki’s budget. It could also be implemented so that young people could travel for free during school hours, such as from 6.00 to 16.00.

It would be better if there were no e-scooters in Helsinki.

This is also true, as I have noticed that there are no safety rules for these e-scooters. For example, riders are allowed to ride anywhere they want and they are not required to wear helmets, which often leads to serious accidents.

For a member of the Youth Council, pushing their own goals through is a more important quality than agreeing on compromises.

Yes, because the Youth Council listens to young people to the best of its ability and promotes young people’s opinions instead of their own interests. The government should pay quite a lot of attention to the Youth Council, as the government should also understand that they have a young population that needs to be taken into consideration.

On which topics would you like the Youth Council to focus, in particular? Select the three that are the most important to you.

Young people’s influencing opportunities; Equal opportunities and equality; Safety

Young people’s rights must always be remembered and respected, just like adult’s rights. Young people should enjoy the same level of safety as adults, as young people should not feel unsafe in their residential areas. Finally, I would like for all young people to be considered as children who deserve the exact same level of fair and sincere teaching provided to others.
