Introduction

Malminkartano Youth Centre is a game-oriented open space for 9–18-year-olds. This new accessible youth centre was opened in autumn 2020, and the facilities were designed according to the wishes and needs of young people.

The youth centre organises activities for 9–18-year-olds:

  • Children’s time for 3rd–6th graders (9–12-year-olds)
  • Young people’s time for 7th graders and older young people (13–18-year-olds)

Our facilities are substance-free, discrimination-free and open to all. During open activities, several youth workers are present at the youth centre.

Game-oriented youth centre

We offer a wide range of equipment for digital gaming, sports and traditional games.

The digital gaming equipment comprises a PS4 + PS4 VR, Nintendo Switch consoles, retro consoles and a room with 12 gaming computers.

The traditional game equipment includes equipment for ping pong, table football and pool (tables suitable for children and young people) as well as a large variety of board and card games, among other things.

The full-size sports hall features equipment for floorball, basketball and indoor football as well as ropes, hoops, dance mirrors and other equipment for hobbies. In the youth centre’s yard, there is a game area covered with artificial turf.

Many other fun things to do

In addition to playing games, you can hang out, watch movies on a projection screen or cook in the spacious and well-equipped kitchen, for example. At the youth centre, we listen to your wishes and let you participate in the planning and implementation of the youth centre’s activities.

In addition to open activities, we organise excursions, events and group activities. You can talk about anything that is on your mind with the youth workers.

We belong to the Kannelmäki Youth Work Unit

We are part of the Kannelmäki Youth Work Unit. The area under the unit’s responsibility also includes Kannelmäki Youth Centre, Malminkartano Recreation Hall, Länsiluotsi, which carries out social youth work, and Operaatio Pulssi!, which coordinates recreational activities.

In this area, we carry out activities related to the City of Helsinki’s young people’s influence system Ruuti.
Our facilities can also be booked for use by organisations and residents.
