A new youth centre for Suuntimopuisto – participate in the planning!
Plans for the new Tapulikaupunki-Puistola Youth Centre will be drawn up in September and October in collaboration with local residents. The participatory planning phase includes online surveys and workshops at schools and local youth centres. The online surveys will open on 15 September.
The planned location of the new youth centre is Suuntimopuisto, which is located next to Puistola railway station. The aim is to create an accessible, barrier-free, safe and welcoming space where young people can spend time, meet their friends, engage in leisure activities, try new things and implement their own ideas. The youth centre will feature a living-room-style lounge area for socialising and events; a kitchen and dining area for cooking, socialising and courses; a multi-purpose hall for casual sports and exercise, dancing, events, etc.; a digital gaming room; a craft/group room for crafts and events; a band room; and a quiet room for relaxing and doing homework .
The estimated size of the youth centre is approximately 700 m². It will be larger than the existing Tapulikaupunki Youth Centre. The majority of the youth centre’s facilities are also being planned to be suitable for use by local residents, and they will be made available for booking via the City’s online facility booking system, Varaamo.
– “The aim is for the new youth centre to be a place that reflects its users. That is why young people’s thoughts, wishes and ideas play an important role in the planning process. What sort of facilities are needed to ensure that young people living in the area enjoy spending time at the youth centre? What sort of activities should be available there, and what sort of things would bring joy to the young people living in the area? As the facilities will also be available for use by local residents, we would like to hear the wishes, expectations and needs of adults and organisations in the area as well,” says Area Manager Ilmo Jokinen from the Northern Youth Work Unit.
– “Therefore we would like to welcome everyone to participate in the planning of the youth centre of the future – a place where everyone can feel they belong, take part in activities, engage in active citizenship and do things their own way!”
The new facilities are to be built using a modular construction method in spring and summer 2028. According to the preliminary timetable, this would mean that the opening ceremony for the new youth centre could be held in autumn 2028.
Children and young people living in the area will be consulted at local schools during school days. In addition to this, local residents can participate in the following ways:
