Clean-up movie night on the shore of the Baltic Sea

Since 2019, the SATAKOLKYT project has encouraged the citizens of Helsinki to spend time at the beach while also picking up trash. The project is coming to an end in the summer of 2022, so we are inviting all citizens to join us in celebrating the important work we have done on behalf of a healthy Baltic Sea! The event will spread across the Mustikkamaa beach and Mustikkamaa Summer Theatre. 

 PROGRAMME 

5–7.30 pm, Mustikkamaa beach
We will do our bit to protect the Baltic Sea by picking up trash in a beach clean-up event in cooperation with Luonto-Liitto and Nordic Ocean Watch Finland. You can also enjoy a fun programme at the beach, such as learning to make Baltic Sea-friendly natural cosmetics yourself.

 7.30 pm onwards, the Mustikkamaa Summer Theatre

7.30-8.30 pm: panel discussion on environmental action (in Finnish)

Around 8.45 pm, after sunset: open-air film screening
A short film Kapinalliset (directed by Miikka Poutiainen 2022), 29min.
The Truffle Hunters (2021), 1h 24min.

Please arrive on time! The audience can enjoy the treats of a pop-up café, Mustikkamaan kesäkahvila, run by young people. 

You are welcome to participate in the programme at the beach, come and enjoy only the movie experience or spend your whole evening at the event! Please bring warm clothes to wear after the sun goes down. You may also want to bring some cash or download MobilePay to pay for the treats at the café. The event is part of the Baltic Sea Day, coordinated by the John Nurminen Foundation. The event is free of charge and open to everyone.

 THE TRUFFLE HUNTERS
Executive produced by Call Me By Your Name´s Luca Guadagnino, this enchanting, Oscar short-listed documentary dives into the shrouded-in-mystery profession of truffle hunting. Filmmakers Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw, whose previous film The Last Race examined the completely different sub-culture of stock car racing, have created a funny, charming, very human insight into an almost defunct skill. It never really punches you between the eyes but, through thoughtful, clever filmmaking, it does what many great documentaries do — provides a glimpse into a world you previously knew nothing about — to deliver an entertaining, if melancholy, portrait of a dying way of life. 

REBELS

Rebels (2022) is a short film by Miikka Poutiainen. The film deals with civil disobedience, the trauma of an activist and the role of public authorities as protectors of society. Two young activists Sanni and Elti are followed in the documentary while the participate on Elokapina’s demonstrations and actions.

HOW TO GET THERE: You can get to the location by crossing Isoisänsilta from Kalasatama or travel straight to Mustikkamaa by taking bus number 16. 

ACCESSIBILITY
The 4 accessible parking spaces and the pick-up and drop-off area are located in the parking area over 200 m from the beach and 100 m from the theatre. The beach: a smooth and sufficiently wide fine crushed rock or sand route leads to the beach. There is a steep slope on the passage. The thearte: the route to the entrance is smooth and sufficiently wide.
