Description
Kipinä Show! – music, film, and the spirit of 80s warm-up culture
Welcome all 16–29-year-olds in the Helsinki metropolitan area to Kipinä Show! on Saturday, May 10, 2025, starting at 5:30 PM at the Kipinä Youth Activity Centre (Turunlinnantie 1, Helsinki).
Kipinä Show! is an audiovisual cultural event combining live music and film in one evening. The concept is inspired by Finnish “warm-up culture” from the 1980s, when many events featured a themed opening act before the main performance. Kipinä Show! brings this nostalgic format to the present day – reimagined for young audiences.
Evening program:
🕕 6:00 PM: The night kicks off with indie/pop artist Carma, whose music delves into deep personal themes while highlighting hope and inner strength.
🎤 Carma is followed by rap/R&B artist Hassan Maikal, known for his unique blend of pop, rap, and Afro-inspired sounds. His second album, Ilmaista terapiaa (Free Therapy), released in autumn 2024, explores the different layers and meanings of love.
🎬 From 7:00 PM, we’ll screen the film Garden State (USA, 2004, age 16+), directed by and starring Zach Braff. This dramedy tells the story of a young man who returns to his hometown for his mother's funeral and begins to reconnect with his emotions after years of medication. Themes include friendship, grief, love, and self-discovery, presented with touches of dark humor. Please note: the film contains some distressing content, depictions of substance use, and sexual material.
Free entry – join us for an unforgettable cultural evening in springtime Helsinki!
