Maunula House Summer Square
Description
Friday evenings at the Summer Square are dedicated to music and performing arts. There will be interesting Friday Gigs and MaunuLAVA Open Stage evenings, featuring fantastic music, exciting dialogue, and poetry. Open Stage performers have been selected through an open call.
Friday Gigs include, among others, performances by the radio/TV journalist and musician-led Pekka Laine & The Enchanted (Fri 22 July) and the Seksihullut punk band (Fri 29 July). Finnish music lovers are treated to a Finnish rock-themed singalong with the legendary entertainer Mikko Alatalo on Thursday, 21 July.
The Summer Square is the place to be also on Saturday, 18 June, with young musicians, producers and DJs performing in the SUMMER JAM by Helsinki Unity Music + DJ Academy event. The Pride Week from Thursday 30 June to Saturday 2 July sees Maunula House taken over by the colourful Rainbow Festival with no age limit. Mainly intended for young people, the event will feature music performances, workshops, karaoke and amazing artists.
Besides performing art, the Summer Square caters for the overall well-being of the body and mind. Summer Tuesdays offer eight relaxing hour-long yoga sessions in the park led by yoga teacher Anna-Mari Pentikäinen. On the well-being day, Saturday 23 July, we will take a Forest Mind trip to the Central Park and embrace the significance of local nature as a health promoter.
There will also be a versatile programme for the whole family at the Summer Square. On Helsinki Day, 12 June, the adult audience will be entertained by a panel discussion on local democracy and the history of Maunula House, topped off with flowing jazz tunes by Ilmiliekki Quartet, and the children can enjoy a Hinni the Mouse’s Very Own Day music theatre performance and a gig by the hugely popular children’s music ensemble Mimmit.
Maunula House Summer Square’s detailed programme information will be available by the beginning of the summer on the Cultural Centre’s website at maunulatalo.hel.fi. We reserve the right to changes. All Summer Square events are free of charge.
