Meidän Stadi meidän parhaaksi

Introduction

I am currently a member of my school’s student association board, prefect and a member of an equal opportunity group. I am quick to intervene in any form of bullying. For me, equality and equality opportunities are key. So I am working to improve these things and fighting for them.

My hobbies include drawing and figure skating. Online role-playing is also close to my heart.

Schools should have more days during which they only serve vegetarian food.

This is my answer because a vegetarian option is offered daily and anyone can choose it. So there are options for everyone.

Schools should focus on grouping more extensively than now.

I think this should be focused on more extensively, so that everyone gets to know each other as people. It is also better to see the inner character of a person instead of making assumptions based on appearances.

Distance learning needs to be established as a permanent learning method in addition to contact teaching.

No, because it does not create the right emotional bond between the pupil and the teacher, it makes it difficult for the teacher to monitor progress, and some people learn better at school than others. Distance learning is also much harder for some, and too much sitting at a computer is not good for you. Spending six hours in front of a computer for school just does not seem like a good idea.

The competitiveness of young people’s sports activities should be reduced.

I think that it is good to have competitive hobbies, but a child / young person needs to also have other things to do and think about. Nevertheless, competitiveness is sometimes good and sometimes bad. It depends on the competition and the attitude of the competition. There are good and bad players, so maybe that requires development.

The City of Helsinki should primarily offer summer jobs to those young people who do not yet have work experience.

Everyone should gain experience and no one should feel like an outsider because of not being selected. Especially if the reason is not having prior experience.

The public spaces in Helsinki should maintain the division between women’s and men’s toilets.

No, they should not. I think that it is a terrible thought that a person who does not identify with any gender would have to choose between these options. Gender-neutral toilets are simply a relief and a help.

Helsinki should start offering free public transport to those under 18.

I think this would be better because young people should not have to pay for trips to their hobbies or other places. It costs a lot of money and makes things difficult.

It would be better if there were no e-scooters in Helsinki.

E-scooters pose a risk of injury and there have been other accidents involving them.

For a member of the Youth Council, pushing their own goals through is a more important quality than agreeing on compromises.

It is nice that everyone has the right to express their opinion. There have to be compromises, but there are some matters where compromising is not always an option. The main thing is that an agreement can be reached on some issues, and on others everyone is free to have their own opinion.

On which topics would you like the Youth Council to focus, in particular? Select the three that are the most important to you.

Climate change and nature conservation; Equal opportunities and equality; Art and culture

Equal opportunities and equality, so that everyone can feel like a part of this community. Climate change and nature conservation, so that future generations have as good a chance to be here as we do. Art and culture because they are really close to some people’s hearts and everyone needs to have the right to explore different kinds of art and culture.
