Maksuton joukkoliikenne koululaisille!

Introduction

Hi! My name is Tuuli Sipilä and I’m from Munkkiniemi. I’m 14 years old and I attend Munkkiniemen Yhteiskoulu school.
I’m running for the Youth Council because I think it is important that the voice of young people is heard in decision-making. I want to be involved in turning Helsinki into a city where everyone has equal opportunities regardless of their gender, age or interests.

Hobbies: I was involved in competitive gymnastics for 11 years, but I stopped doing it in spring 2020. However, I still continue with the sport by coaching young gymnasts.
Currently, I play tennis and read books in my spare time.

Schools should have more days during which they only serve vegetarian food.

Vegetarian food is always available and everyone is free to choose it. I see no reason why everyone should have to settle for vegetarian food if they do not like it. Vegetarian food also creates more food waste, because it is not as popular as meat dishes, for example.

Schools should focus on grouping more extensively than now.

It is important for everyone to have friends at school, but you cannot force friendship. However, everyone needs to get along.

Distance learning needs to be established as a permanent learning method in addition to contact teaching.

Everyone learns at their own pace. It would be good if it were also possible to complete lesson assignments independently at home. There is no point in sitting in a classroom listening to lessons on things that are already easy for you.

When a pupil is ill and unable to attend contact teaching, they could complete their lesson assignments independently at home.

The competitiveness of young people’s sports activities should be reduced.

Not everyone has to compete. It is completely voluntary. Many people are talented at and passionate about their sport, so it is important that they have the opportunity to develop.

If you want to improve in your sport, training will take time. However, it should be up to the young people themselves to decide whether they want to continue with goal-oriented training. You can switch from a competitive group to a hobby group if competing is not for you.

The City of Helsinki should primarily offer summer jobs to those young people who do not yet have work experience.

The public spaces in Helsinki should maintain the division between women’s and men’s toilets.

Helsinki should start offering free public transport to those under 18.

It would be better if there were no e-scooters in Helsinki.

There should be strict limits on where you can and cannot ride an e-scooter. I think they should be ridden in cycle lanes.

For a member of the Youth Council, pushing their own goals through is a more important quality than agreeing on compromises.

People bring their own opinions to the Youth Council. Of course, it is important to listen to and take into account the opinions of others, but the members represent themselves in the council, not the school or any other body.

On which topics would you like the Youth Council to focus, in particular? Select the three that are the most important to you.

Equal opportunities and equality; Schools and education; Healthcare and mental health

Mental health is an important subject and needs to be discussed more.

As a school pupil myself, I want my voice to be heard when it comes to decisions on teaching and school.

Everyone is equal and should be respected. Everyone must have equal opportunities regardless of gender, age or skin colour.
