Introduction

I’m a 16-year-old girl called Sandi Siekkinen. I am currently studying social services and health care to become a practical nurse, and I want to make it as far as I possibly can in the health care industry. My dream is to become a doctor. I want to promote work against bullying.

My hobbies include jogging with my German shepherd and every now and then I also draw.

Schools should have more days during which they only serve vegetarian food.

The consumption of vegetarian food will increase to at least some degree in the future.

Schools should focus on grouping more extensively than now.

People will feel less lonely, meet new people and potentially make new acquaintances and even friends.

Distance learning needs to be established as a permanent learning method in addition to contact teaching.

Distance learning must not become an established method alongside contact teaching, as it could cause some pupils and students to fall behind. They can learn better through contact teaching, in which the teacher is present and able to provide more personal assistance. Distance learning also puts a strain on teachers, as they have to arrange their teaching in a very different way.

The competitiveness of young people’s sports activities should be reduced.

I am not sure what to say, as some people really like competitive sports, while others prefer more relaxed sports. There could be two types of groups for young people: groups for those who like competitive sports and groups for those who do not care for competitive sports.

The City of Helsinki should primarily offer summer jobs to those young people who do not yet have work experience.

Absolutely! Summer jobs should be offered to young people who lack work experience; for example, the current practice of providing summer job vouchers.

The public spaces in Helsinki should maintain the division between women’s and men’s toilets.

Places could have the traditional division into men and women’s toilets, but then they could also have unisex toilets that everyone could use.

Helsinki should start offering free public transport to those under 18.

I think that the current system works well and I would not change it.

It would be better if there were no e-scooters in Helsinki.

Proper rules should be established for e-scooters, and everyone should follow them. This would minimise safety risks.

For a member of the Youth Council, pushing their own goals through is a more important quality than agreeing on compromises.

I think that it is good to have your own goals, but making compromises is important.
