Introduction

Hello! My name is Nuur Mahmood. I’m 14 years old. I’m particularly interested in promoting Helsinki’s climate work and recreational activities. We must recommend the use of electric cars and solar panels more now and in the future in order to conserve energy and keep nature clean.  For me, it is very important that all young people feel safe in their own environment. All people must be accepted regardless of their skin tone, religion, background or opinions. Helsinki should be renowned for its safety and liberty. We should all be proud of our city and take care of it. Let’s keep Helsinki green!

Hobbies: I particularly enjoy drawing and reading books in English. I’m also interested in politics and events in different countries. I like Japanese authors such as Dazai Osamu, even though I have never read his books. Hopefully I will in the future. My favourite bands include Deftones, Mitski and BTS.

Schools should have more days during which they only serve vegetarian food.

There are many students in Helsinki who are vegetarians or follow religions that forbid certain meat products.

Schools should focus on grouping more extensively than now.

There are pupils at some schools who do not have any friends. And some are too shy to make friends.

Distance learning needs to be established as a permanent learning method in addition to contact teaching.

Pupils need constant help and guidance. Not everyone can keep up and learn through distance learning.

The competitiveness of young people’s sports activities should be reduced.

There are pupils who do not do sport or those who are not interested in sport.

The City of Helsinki should primarily offer summer jobs to those young people who do not yet have work experience.

I do not really care if toilets are divided between men and women, but it really depends on the person.

The public spaces in Helsinki should maintain the division between women’s and men’s toilets.

The public transport fee for underage people is only 1.40 euros, so it is very affordable for most people.

Helsinki should start offering free public transport to those under 18.

People in Helsinki are no longer physically active enough. The city bikes were a good idea, but I think e-scooters are unnecessary.

It would be better if there were no e-scooters in Helsinki.

It is important to listen to other people’s ideas, but your own are just as important.

For a member of the Youth Council, pushing their own goals through is a more important quality than agreeing on compromises.

Climate change and nature conservation; Equal opportunities and equality; Safety

On which topics would you like the Youth Council to focus, in particular? Select the three that are the most important to you.

I think equality, nature and safety are the most important things, because people cannot live in peace without them.
