Answers to the election machine

Schools should have more days during which they only serve vegetarian food.

Vegetarian food is healthy for you and the world. Climate change should be slowed down, and people should eat more vegetarian food. The vegetarian food offered at schools could also be made tasty with the right spices.

Schools should focus on grouping more extensively than now.

Getting along with everyone is important. Not everyone has to be best friends with each other, but everyone should know how to cooperate with others. Group cohesion contributes to this ability, and prevents bullying.

Distance learning needs to be established as a permanent learning method in addition to contact teaching.

Distance learning could also allow for more flexible remedial teaching. For example, the teacher could help you review the materials in the evening if you have been absent from school. One teacher could teach a topic to all pupils, regardless of which city the pupils live in.

The competitiveness of young people’s sports activities should be reduced.

Competitiveness is a good thing as long as it does not go overboard, but the pressure caused by competition is great nowadays.

The City of Helsinki should primarily offer summer jobs to those young people who do not yet have work experience.

It may be difficult for young people to find their first job and gain work experience. This is why it is important for the City to arrange opportunities for young people to find employment and get started in working life.

The public spaces in Helsinki should maintain the division between women’s and men’s toilets.

Everyone should be able to feel comfortable using the toilet and choose the type of toilet that feels good to them.

Helsinki should start offering free public transport to those under 18.

Free public transport would mean providing young people with equal opportunities to travel to their hobbies and events, commute to school and visit a friend by bus, for example.

It would be better if there were no e-scooters in Helsinki.

E-scooters are fun, but they run so fast that inexperienced riders can easily hurt themselves or crash into someone.

For a member of the Youth Council, pushing their own goals through is a more important quality than agreeing on compromises.

If we only try to push our own goals, we will not get far. By cooperating and being flexible when approprate, we have an opportunity to push through matters that are important to young people. This also requires adults to be flexible.

On which topics would you like the Youth Council to focus, in particular? Select the three that are the most important to you.

It is important for all young people to be taken into consideration, regardless of their differences, and for everyone to also have the chance to participate in recreational activities and meet their friends outside school.
