Yksi kaikkien ja kaikki yhden nuoren puolesta!

Introduction

I’m standing as a candidate because I like to make a difference. In lower comprehensive school, I was on the school board and I had the opportunity to influence a lot of things. I would like to influence matters related to schools, safety and how people are being treated. I’m very active and like to take action quickly. I’m a member of my school’s student association board and that is also how I became involved in this election.

My hobbies include scouting and street dance.

Schools should have more days during which they only serve vegetarian food.

I think vegetarian food could be served in a different line so that everyone can choose either the vegetarian or the meat option. This prevents vegetarian options from getting mixed up with meat dishes.

Schools should focus on grouping more extensively than now.

Schools should focus more on grouping, because if we were all as good friends with each other as possible, maybe there would be A LOT less bullying than now, since there is too much bullying at schools right now.

Distance learning needs to be established as a permanent learning method in addition to contact teaching.

I think distance learning should not necessarily be established as a permanent learning method, as contact teaching at the school is a lot easier for both pupils and teachers than having to change their Meet calls, for example, depending on the class. And if you need help with something at home and you do not have a Meet call on, it is difficult to ask the teacher for help. Even exams are easier to do at school, either with pen and paper or on the computer, because the teacher can help if you have any questions.

The competitiveness of young people’s sports activities should be reduced.

I don’t think it should be reduced in all sporty hobbies, as competence level and how good you are at something is important to some sports, but in others you do not need to be as good in them.

The City of Helsinki should primarily offer summer jobs to those young people who do not yet have work experience.

It think they should be offered to everyone equally, as having some work experience does not mean that you don’t want to work or get into a new job. Some may have experience and others don’t, but I don’t think it should have an impact on who gets a job and who does not.

The public spaces in Helsinki should maintain the division between women’s and men’s toilets.

I don’t think toilets should be gendered, for real. What if a person is trans, which toilet should they use then? Toilets could be gender-neutral so that EVERYONE can be equal.

Helsinki should start offering free public transport to those under 18.

I don’t believe free public transport should be offered. Everyone with a long school journey should get a bus card from school, which means that they do not have to pay for the trips anyway. I still think it’s right that children under school age can ride a bus free of charge, but need a bus card when they turn seven.

It would be better if there were no e-scooters in Helsinki.

I think e-scooters should have some kind of an age limit, so that not everyone can drive them. You see a lot of people outside who don’t drive them responsibly; they run red lights or drive on the pedestrian lane. The age limit could be 15 years, for example, so that younger kids would know not to fool around with the e-scooters.

For a member of the Youth Council, pushing their own goals through is a more important quality than agreeing on compromises.

I think making compromises is an important skill, as no one can get their own way all the time. It is important to be flexible and take part in other proposals and things. Maybe your idea is not the best, but you can be part of someone else’s great idea. You can and should respect other people and not shoot down their ideas.

On which topics would you like the Youth Council to focus, in particular? Select the three that are the most important to you.

Young people’s influencing opportunities; Safety; Healthcare and mental health

I chose the themes of safety, healthcare and mental health because I think safety is important to us all and everyone should be able to feel well. Mental health and healthcare are also important so that everyone is healthy mentally and physically, and that their mental health is stable.
I also chose young people’s influencing opportunities as an important theme, so that everyone can present their ideas and promote different matters. Young people have surprisingly good ideas and great goals.
