Youth Helsinki Survey

We collect experience-based information from young people!

Through the Youth Helsinki Survey, Helsinki Youth Services collects experience-based information from young people in Helsinki every two years.
The Youth Helsinki Survey is intended for 7th–9th grade students studying in Helsinki. Young people are asked about topics such as their free time, wishes regarding hobbies, their residential area, experiences of safety, and opportunities to have an influence.
The experience-based information collected through the survey is reviewed together with young people in the Youth Budget workshops in September. Based on the survey results, resources for youth work are allocated and, among other things, young people’s hobby opportunities are developed. The results are also used in the development of other city services. In 2025, a total of 9,445 young people responded to the survey.
The survey gives young people the opportunity to express their wishes and influence matters that are important to them.

Youth Services conducts the Youth Helsinki Survey in cooperation with schools and educational institutions.

The survey is implemented in Helsinki by 13 different youth work units:

  • Kaakkoinen youth work unit
  • Itäkeskus youth work unit
  • Kontula youth work unit
  • Vuosaari youth work unit
  • Eteläinen youth work unit
  • Kaarela youth work unit
  • Helsingfors svenska ungdomsarbetsenhet
  • Munkkiniemi youth work unit
  • Pasila youth work unit
  • Malmi youth work unit
  • Maunula youth work unit
  • Koillinen youth work unit
  • Viikki youth work unit

Young people use their own phones or loan devices provided by youth workers to complete the survey. The survey does not collect directly identifiable personal data.

The Youth Helsinki Survey will be conducted between 23 March and 30 April. The survey will be carried out at agreed times in cooperation with schools and educational institutions. As a rule, youth workers conduct the survey during the school day by visiting lessons, or if necessary, instruct teachers to administer the survey.
