Children’s and Young People’s Own Festival Day in Oulunkylä!
Nuorten Helsinki is joining forces to organize the Kipinä Festival Day for children and young people, taking over Oulunkylä Sports Park on Thursday, July 3rd, 2025.
It all started with a youth-led idea. In autumn 2024, young people from Maunula took part in the Youth budgeting workshops and came up with a wish: a festival by young people – for young people. The idea gained support and was awarded €5,000 in funding.
At the same time, it was announced that an adult-oriented Kipinä Festival would be held in Oulunkylä in summer 2025. The timing couldn’t have been better! The idea took off – why not have a festival day for kids and youngsters too? Now, United Festivals, IF Gnistan, and young people themselves are all working together to make it happen.
Throughout the spring, young people have been fully hands-on: planning side activities, booking performers, handling communications, and working out the practical stuff. They’ve also arranged raffles to give out free tickets to other local youth.
Youth workers from Maunula have supported and coached the group throughout the journey whenever needed. In total, 21 young people from Oulunkylä, Torpparinmäki, and Maunula have been planning the event with professionals from the festival world.
On Thursday 3.7. in Oulunkylä, you’ll see and hear:
- Rap artist Ares
- Pop singer Sara Bee
- Youth bands and a football match
- Face painting and plenty of summer fun
- Main stage host: Aaron Räty
