Changes in the operations of Munkkivuori Youth Centre in autumn 2026

Munkkivuori Youth Centre is not closing. The youth centre will continue to operate but changes the organisation of its activities and its opening hours.
The change is based on the City’s decision to organise youth work in-house in the whole of Helsinki. The aim is to ensure that young people have access to high-quality, safe and professional youth work across the city.

Operations in spring and summer 2026
Munkkivuori Youth Centre will continue to operate as it has until spring 2026. As always, children and young people are warmly welcome to the youth centre. In summer 2026, Munkkivuori Youth Centre will be closed. During this period, the Munkkiniemi Youth Work Unit will organise a wide range of summer activities for children and young people in the Munkkivuori area.

What will the change mean for different activities from autumn 2026 onwards?

After-school activities for 1st and 2nd graders
The application period for after-school activities in the 2026–2027 school year is 16 March–13 April 2026.  After-school activities under the Basic Education Act are intended for pupils in grades 1 to 2 and for pupils who have been issued an administrative decision on support for learning. All children who apply during the application period will be assigned a place in after-school activities.

Hobby clubs
At the moment, Munkkivuori Youth Centre hosts several hobby clubs organised by different clubs and organisations. It will continue to be possible to use the facilities and equipment of the youth centre for both occasional and regular activities. During the spring and summer, we will work on how clubs and organisations can continue to book the facilities easily.

Youth services
The City of Helsinki’s youth services will continue to organise activities for young people in the Munkkivuori area from autumn 2026 onwards. Young people living in the area are also welcome to visit the local Munkkiniemi and Pikku-Huopalahti youth centres.
We are carefully preparing for the change and will provide more information as the operating plans for autumn 2026 are clarified.
