About vape

E-cigarettes, or vapes, have become a global phenomenon. One in ten Finns aged 15-16 years is already vaping. So why are adults worried about this?

Did you know that
• Vaping e-cigarettes interferes with the normal functioning of the lungs and can damage the lung cells, which is particularly harmful for young people, as lung development is still incomplete?
• Most vaporisers contain vegetable glycerine, which is toxic when vaporised?
• Several metals have been found in vapourised liquids and their vapour, which can be dissolved especially by the element heating the liquid? Samples have been found to contain copper, zinc and alarmingly large amounts of lead, for example.

Although there is still little research evidence about adversary effects, the evidence so far produced by studies is worrying. Children and young people are currently the guinea pigs of the nicotine industry, as the long-term effects of vaping use are not yet known.
In this video, you will hear more about vaping, nicotine and their adverse effects.

If you have questions about vaping or are already experiencing symptoms of addiction, such as restlessness, headaches, trouble sleeping or respiratory symptoms, take it seriously and seek advice from your school nurse. You can also talk to a trusted adult about it.
