During the autumn break, we watch Finnish films based on children’s books at Annantalo Holiday Cinema.

Holiday Cinema is part of the Children’s Book Festival, which is held at Annantalo from 7 October 2026 to 27 February 2027. The Children’s Book Festival celebrates children’s picture books and reading through an exhibition, author visits, workshops and events.

The film screenings are free of charge; no advance registration required. Please arrive in good time, as we will let the audience in on a first-come, first-served basis. The film screenings have a limited number of seats, and we will admit groups where possible.

Kanelia kainaloon, Tatu ja Patu!

In the film Kanelia kainaloon, Tatu ja Patu!, the brothers travel by train from Outola to Helsinki at Christmas time to meet their 9-year-old friend Veera. A fantastic surprise organised by Veera awaits them in the city! However, due to the Christmas rush, Veera is unable to make it to the railway station in time, so the brothers head off into the big city on their own.

What follows is an adventure brimming with zany twists and turns, as Tatu and Patu make their way through the city on their way to find Veera. The enthusiastic brothers fervently want to fit in and do what the locals do when preparing for Christmas. They almost succeed. At the Art Museum, they find a ‘gifted’ artist; in a department store, Santa Claus and the Christmas tree get cheerfully mixed up; and why not sprinkle cinnamon in your armpits instead of on your porridge!

Fortunately, the brothers’ resourceful friend Veera takes charge, and the friends eventually find their way to each other – and to the grand surprise that Veera has arranged!
