Banjo Spectacle Miihkali Jaatinen
Description
In this English-language banjo spectacle for children and young people, Miikhali Jaatinen takes the audience on a journey through the colourful history of the banjo.
Banjospektaakkeli presents the history of music and our Western culture by playing different banjos and telling stories. The performance will take the audience through the colourful story of the banjo, which begins in Africa, moves on to slave ships to travel to the United States and finally evolves into its current form, influencing many musical and social movements. The overarching theme running through the journey of the banjo is the unifying power of music.
The repertoire lives with the audience, with a variety of banjos ranging from five-string to fretless and from electric banjo to tenor, resonator and plectrum banjo. The banjo's strings bend smoothly to old time tradition, bluegrass swing, New Orleans jazz and folk music storytelling. And that's not all: the banjo rocks, goes on progressive excursions and thunders to the beat of metal. Banjospektaakkeli is full of surprises – all aboard!
