The number and quality of outdoor gyms have been invested in in recent years. In 2010, 370 pieces of apparatus were purchased in Helsinki, and since then the pace has remained at about 100 pieces per year. Outdoor gyms have been quietly popping up along outdoor trails and next to parks and sports arenas. These gyms have been embraced by Helsinki residents and have emerged as top favourites. 

The outdoor gyms with David equipment are particularly popular, and those at Hietaniemi Beach and Pirkkola Sports Park have been the most popular in terms of attendance. The equipment and facilities at the outdoor gyms are available all year round, free of charge, 24 hours a day. The equipment features a movable weight block the resistance of which can be
adjusted, making the outdoor gyms suitable for people of different levels of fitness. The heaviest weights at the gyms are 100 kg, so you can get a really good workout with them. New outdoor gyms have also been built at Helsinki Swimming Stadium and Kumpula outdoor swimming pool.
