SMC is a Helsinki-based rap group that has been producing recognisable and unapologetic music since 2009. The line-up consists of Avionin Prinssi, Thono Slowknow and Erä-Koira & DJ J-Laini, all veterans of the Finnish rap music scene. The group’s story began with the SMC Hoodrats video made for the Skatemaniacs movie. The video became the most viewed Finnish rap music video ever and has millions of views.
SMC’s first album ‘Raffii Suomi-flättii’ (2011) has exceeded the target for a gold record and has several songs that are now classics such as ‘Lähiörotat skujaa’ and ‘Yks Risti Kaks’. SMC’s second album ‘Ja Niin Se Menee’ was published in 2015 and the group has since regularly published new songs such as ‘Täältä mä tuun’, for which the streams hit the gold target, and ‘Haavoihin suolaa’ and ‘Iron Maiden’ which were published in 2020 and received wide acclaim.
SMC, which has in the 2020s reached cult status, has also toured clubs and festivals, sounding relatable to not only its devoted fans but to the younger generation as well. The group, known for its authentic Helsinki spirit and slang, has from the beginning been very committed to its attitude and fans. The group came together in the skateboarding culture of the 1990s and now stuns audiences with powerful live performances. This Iron Maiden of Finnish rap does not leave anything unfinished.
